Paste URL onto selected text creates link

Want an example, look at how WordPress does this. It's magical! To create a link, I just select the text that I want to turn into a link, then copy a URL and paste it "onto" that text. Instead of pasting the URL and replacing the text (like it works everywhere else) WordPress turns the text into a link to the URL I pasted. So much quicker/easier to create links this way.
